In nature, females tend to dominate males. Think about a wolf pack, a lion pack, a gorilla pack...
But it takes an Alfa female to be able to dominate an Alfa male.
No male or female however can dominate the Super Alfa Male. The SilverBack only accepts the presence of alfa males and/or females, and tends to dominate them. A promising alfa male will have the benefit of being teached by him. Females will go hunt for him and watch over his descendents, borne out of the alfa female.

Only when he can no longer demonstrate his strenght, will an other alfa male treaten his position, and will the alfa female reject his dominance.
But if this attempt fails, the alfa male will be hurt and send away or killed, the female will be corrected and the eventual young from the unfaitfullnes will be killed.
