She Came In Through The Bathroom Window

"She Came In Through The Bathroom Window", a classic song off Abbey Road, the amazing final album by The Beatles, released 50 years ago. If I'm not mistaken it was inspired by an actual incident involving one the Beatles' many psychotic fans trying to break into Paul McCartney's house, well, through his bathroom window.

But have any of us ever put some thought into the lyrics themselves? I found myself doing so just yesterday afternoon, when the song played on the radio at a comic store of in Nyack, NY. Perhaps Paul was just looking for something that sounded right to fit the rest of his lyrical sets when he wrote the line "She said she'd always been a dancer, she worked at fifteen clubs a day". But it had me thinking out loud, "fucking whore!", to the laughter of the gentleman behind the counter.

Perhaps I'm taking it too literally, but what stripper works FIFTEEN clubs in one day? Two, maybe three, that's probably normal. But why and HOW would anyone manage to work that many clubs in one day? Does one cut her own shift as short as possible because the regulars at the joint tip like ass? Is the club owner broke, prompting him to cut the dancers' hours? Outside of that, there can't be that many clubs within a reasonable distance for anyone to work FIFTEEN clubs. It takes a lot of stamina - and a hell of a whore to dance in fifteen clubs a day!
